PRESS RELEASE – 15 JUNE 2007
AMSTERDAM – Stichting A Sister’s Hope, producer of the first-ever, two-day walk in Holland to raise money in the fight against breast cancer, announces Stichting Pink Ribbon as beneficiary of the 6 & 7 Oktober 2007 event.
“Pink Ribbon is an obvious choice as beneficiary of our event,” said A Sister’s Hope executive director Cathy Seabaugh. “The organization already is making a tremendous impact in Holland. This partnership and the 60km Walk will move us many steps closer to identifying better treatments and, ultimately, a cure for breast cancer.”
“Holland Moves” television host Olga Commandeur and Academie Lichamelijke Opvoeding/Amsterdam director Cees Vervoorn join columnist/writer Yvonne Kroonenberg, television host Anniko van Santen, Amsterdam police commissioner Bernard Welten and VUMc oncologist Petrousjka van den Tol as Ambassadors of the event .
Participants in A Sister’s Hope 60K will walk from Amersfoort to Amsterdam the first weekend of October, known as Breast Cancer Awareness Month worldwide. Each walker commits to raising a minimum of 1,500 euros and some registrants already have raised nearly twice that amount. This event is modeled after the successful multi-day breast cancer walks held in North America that have raised millions of dollars since 1998.
“We at Pink Ribbon are deeply gratified and honored to be the sole beneficiary of this first Sister’s Hope Walk in the Netherlands,” said Maya Meijer Bergmans, chairman of the Pink Ribbon Foundation. “We are looking forward to a long and fruitful cooperation in our mutual quest of raising funds for the benefit of the Pink Ribbon Foundation.”
Stichting Pink Ribbon celebrates its fifth anniversary this year and the collaborative effort with A Sister’s Hope 60K helps mark that milestone for the organization.
Funds raised by A Sister’s Hope 60K will be awarded to promising breast cancer research teams in The Netherlands. Pink Ribbon and A Sister’s Hope are working closely with the Dutch Breast Cancer Association and its annual pink ribbon walk.
More well-known Dutch ambassadors will be named over the next two weeks.
Stichting A Sister’s Hope is registered with the Chamber of Merchandise – Amsterdam. Stichting Pink Ribbon is a member of the Queen Wilhelmina Foundation.
