A foot-sore fundraiser is “delighted” that she can take part in next month’s 60k walk after gaining the support of an international recruitment consultancy.
American national Carrie Ballard has lived in the Netherlands for 10 years and decided that she wanted to give something back to the Dutch community.
The 54-year-old learnt about the fantastic work done by ‘A Sister’s Hope’ and turned to her friend Jacqueline Van Puijfelik, of Huxley Associates, for help to raise the €1,500 needed to take part in the event.
Huxley Associates is renowned for its charity fundraising efforts and Jacqueline easily convinced the managers and directors in Amsterdam that this would be a very worthwhile cause to support.
The recruitment team leader then began to rally her generous colleagues into action, collecting more than €1,000 from employees based in Amsterdam, Belgium and Germany.

Jacqueline said: “It’s a shared project - I said to Carrie that I would be willing to help raise some of the money if she would be willing to do the walk. She is determined to give something back to the Dutch community and decided that this event would be an ideal opportunity to do so.”
She continued: “The majority of people know someone who has been affected by breast cancer, whether it be a family member or friend, and Huxley Associates is delighted to be able to support this fantastic initiative.”
Carrie said that she was very impressed that her friend had been able to collect so much money and thanked the employees of Huxley Associates for their “wonderful” help.

She said: “I think it’s brilliant that we have been able to work together to raise this money and I’m delighted that I can now take part. Breast cancer affects one in nine women and it is so important that people support organisations like ‘A Sister’s Hope.”
Carrie is currently training hard with a group of friends in preparation for next month’s mammoth two-day walk. “We’re already walking whenever we can and it is amazing how much your legs and feet start to ache. I’m older than the rest of my team and it’s going to be painful to finish the 60km - but I’m determined to do it and I desperately hope it doesn’t rain!” She added.
Huxley Associates would like to wish Carrie and everyone who is taking part in ‘A Sister’s Hope 60k’ the best of luck.
